A Look Back at 2025 with Dirty Bird Genetics: The Year of the Sour Lime Haze

By Beth Mathieu – December 30, 2025

As the Dirty Bird team sat down to reflect on 2025 and the growth of our breeding program, one thing we talked a lot about was how far the genetics have come. Our efforts have compounded in a very observable way in 2025, and with each new breed we test, we are seeing that take shape more and more. We have gotten increasingly intentional in our selections, and as we compile more and more data on our genetics and their combining potential, we become infinitely more effective in the projects we run and the outcomes we receive.

In 2025, the Dirty Bird Genetics team bred 35 new strains and tested dozens of cultivars – both our own and other breeder’s work. Of them all, the strain that defined 2025 for us was hands down the Sour Lime Haze. The Sour Lime Haze is an incredible strain in its own right, but as a breeding candidate, we learned much more about the true potential it holds. Some of the best strains we’ve created came out of our Sour Lime Haze breeds we tested this year.

What do we love about the Sour Lime Haze?

  1. TERPS: The Sour Lime Haze has the most incredible, reliable sour/lime/petrol terpene profile, and we can’t seem to get enough of it. By including it in several projects this year, we’ve found the SLH terpene profile to be very dominant, coming through persistently when crossed with even the stinkiest of strains, and in some cases, morphing into something familiar but new, with equally pungent, complex characteristics. The strain that stands out the most here is the Bloodhounds Fang, which will be dropping 1/9/26. We were astounded by this mashup of SLH and Maui True Blood terpenes, with this cultivar becoming our best example to date of a strain in which the sum is greater than its parts.

  1. MORPHOLOGY + YIELD: The Sour Lime Haze has a super homogenous, sturdy morphology which it reliably passes on to its progeny. These plants are never stretchy and have ideal internodal spacing for maximum yields, airflow, and photosynthesis. They are self-supporting with very strong stalks that sufficiently support their massive flowers.

Take a peek at the Sour Lime Haze crosses we created in 2025 that had us chomping at the bit for more:

As always, on behalf of the Dirty Bird Genetics team, I’d like to thank you for your continued support. You guys make our dream a reality and for that, we will be forever grateful.
