Plant Morphology
Black Goliath is an easy to grow plant with a sturdy central stalk and a strong vegetative stage. Average floral initiation comes around day 29, and a full cycle from seed to harvest is 80 days. Some defoliation is needed in bloom to allow for light penetration and good airflow. This strain has a high calyx-to-leaf ratio, relatively tight internodal spacing, and strong lateral branching. Black Goliath grows best untopped, creating large, dense colas with deeply purple calyxes, orange hairs, and green sugar leaves.
Terpenes
Sweet, musky, and spicy across the board, with notes of pine, skunk, and cherry chapstick in different cultivars. Similar to Durban terps – peppery and sharp but also slightly floral. Caryophyllene and myrcene are dominant, followed by limonene. Humulene, linalool, and pinene were also prevalent.
Effect
Black Goliath will punch you in the brain like a gorilla. Starting off chatty and spacey, this slightly indica-leaning strain settles down into a relaxing body high. A bit of a chameleon creeper weed, Black Goliath is a smooth smoke great for melting away the stresses of the day without putting you to sleep.
Notes from the Grower(s): The Black Goliath is one of those strains that will stand out in any garden due to its dark purple flower, incredibly dense yields, and a complex terpene profile. For an F1, the stability and homogeneity of the Black Goliath is quite remarkable. We credit this, in large part, to the Anvil F7 (Gnome Automatics) mother we selected to breed with. The Anvil definitely brought its A-game to this cross, lending to the low PVI, dark purple flowers, high density, above-average yields, and elongated central cola. The Sour Gorilla Auto (Humboldt Seed Co’s Sour Apple Auto x Fastbud’s Strawberry Gorilla Auto) is wonderfully sugary and appley, and it grows like a typical hybrid of medium height and density. This helped bring sugar and terps to the cross, as well as stretching out the otherwise super-compact structure of the Anvil.
Combined, the Black Goliath’s Anvil F7 x Sour Gorilla lineage came together wonderfully. We are really proud of this creation and excited for you to grow it at home and give us your feedback.
